What is Spoon Theory?
Spoon Theory is a metaphor created by Christine Miserandino to describe the limited energy available to people with chronic illness, disability, or fatigue conditions such as fibromyalgia, ME/CFS, lupus, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, and many others. Each "spoon" represents a unit of energy — spoonies start each day with a limited number of spoons and must budget them carefully.

AI Personal Baseline Calibration
After 7 days of check-ins, My Spoonie Life's AI switches from generic thresholds to ones built from your own history. It calculates your personal average energy day and typical low day from up to 30 days of data, then fires Watch and Rest alerts when your energy drops below YOUR own normal range. A spoonie who naturally averages 3 spoons a day won't get false alarms at 2; someone who averages 10 will be warned when they drop to 6. The longer you use the app, the smarter it gets.
Who is this app for?
My Spoonie Life is designed for anyone who identifies as a spoonie — people living with fibromyalgia, ME/CFS (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome), POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), lupus, CRPS, sickle cell disease, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, long COVID, chronic pain, and other invisible or chronic illness conditions.
Daily Symptom Checker with PEM Detection
The Today tab includes a named symptom checker with 25 common chronic illness symptoms across 7 groups. Tap to log what you're experiencing each day. The AI automatically detects PEM (Post-Exertional Malaise) and issues a full rest alert. Over time, recurring symptoms build up into pattern cards you can review in the weekly Insights tab.
Hormonal Cycle & Menopause Tracking
Optionally enable hormonal cycle phase logging from the Help tab — covering menstrual, follicular, ovulatory, and luteal phases. You can also indicate if you're in perimenopause or post-menopause. All language is gender-neutral. When enabled, the AI uses your phase to adjust energy thresholds so your alerts are always accurate for where you are in your cycle.
Sickle Cell Disease Support
Enable sickle cell support in the Help tab to add a daily pain crisis slider (0–10) to your Today tab. At level 5 or above the AI flags a Watch alert; at 7 or above it triggers a Rest alert with hydration, warmth, and complete rest guidance. The Sickle Cell Society helpline is also listed in the Chronic Illness section of the Help tab.
Smart Watch Health Data Logging
My Spoonie Life includes a dedicated Smart Watch Data section where you can log health readings from any smart watch or wearable — blood pressure, heart rate, SpO₂ (oxygen saturation), step count, skin temperature, and stress score. These readings feed into the AI insights for personalised energy guidance.
Crisis Helplines for 20+ Countries
The Help tab covers the UK (England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland), Republic of Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, and 12 European countries: Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Portugal, Poland, and Austria. A Rest of World section links to international directories for all other countries.
14 Languages Supported
My Spoonie Life is available in English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic (with right-to-left layout), Russian, and Swedish. The app automatically detects your device language — no setup required.
